Cliffnotes: In China it is often cheaper to run over and kill someone than to pay for the person's medical expenses so drivers often run over people repeatedly to ensure that the victims die.
My question is this: is automobile liability insurance not common in China? In America a typical insurance policy will cover up to a few hundred thousand dollars in liability and it is easy to buy additional insurance. Do these BMW drivers not have insurance to protect them from lawsuits?
I'm glad I didn't know about this when I was in China. This is basically the government helping you cover up accidental-became-deliberate murder simply because it serves their population reduction policy. Watch out on the streets: If you're hit and the driver doesn't run, it isn't cause to breathe a sigh of relief.
It what I've been thinking for a while now: Chinese become violent at the mere suggestion of being held accountable for their actions. They will murder to avoid it.
And it's not even a CCP thing: Taiwan has these jerks as well, as the article demonstrates. This is a failure of culture.
This is nothing more than government sanctioned killing for those that can pay the excessive bribes.
For people with power and money and guanxi....this is merely a speed bump (pun intended).
This behavior lands squarely at the feet of those who make the laws...and bend them...for the right price.
Regard for life other than immediate family is an after thought in China....especially those with connections..and this will never end as long as those in power are never held accountable to the masses.
